oil on board

25.5 x 20.5 cm

  • External frame size: 29.3 x 24.2 cm

  • Hand-painted frame made by me

  • Ready to hang

This painting of a Persian Nightingale is based on a group of watercolours from an album assembled and partly drawn by Rachel Welland, a member of the Company School in India in the late 18th-century.

The nightingale is the official national bird of Iran. In medieval Persian literature, the nightingale’s enjoyable song has made it a symbol of the lover who is eloquent and passionate.

This painting would work particularly well hung above a side-table or as part of a salon hang wall, and would add a playful pop of colour to any room.
